Taxpayers who aren't able to file by the April 18, 2023, deadline can request an extension before that deadline, but they should know that an extension to file is not an extension to pay taxes. If they owe taxes, they should pay them before the due date to avoid potential penalties and interest on the amount owed
FreeTax Return Preparation
The following volunteer organizations offer free assistance to the elderly and other individual taxpayers that need to file their income tax electronically. AARP Tax-Aide: This organization offers free assistance for electronically filing federal and Arizona state returns. The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program offers free assistance to individuals 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service, to file federal and Arizona State returns. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): The VITA Program offers free tax help to people who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers. Arizona Free File Alliance Some taxpayers may qualify to e-file under the Arizona Free File Alliance, which is a public-private partnership between ADOR and a consortium of tax preparation software companies. The Free File Program is open to Arizona taxpayers who meet certain criteria.
